Chandigarh, Aug 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) Clarifying that there would be no alliance, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national General Secretary Satish Poonia on Monday said the party would contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own strength, with grassroots organisational strengthening as his primary responsibility ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
In his first media interaction after being appointed as the party’s organisational in‑charge for Punjab, Poonia said his focus would be on understanding the organisation, reviewing its functioning and strengthening the party structure from the booth level to the state level. Meetings with the BJP core committee, office‑bearers, district presidents and district in‑charges will form part of his initial programme.
Poonia announced that the BJP’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan would be organised from September 17 to October 17 across the country, including Punjab. He said the campaign would not merely be a celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday but would focus on social service and public welfare.
He emphasised that the BJP’s strength lies in its cadre and that the party’s endeavour would remain to keep workers at the centre of organisational activities. “There are limited organisational positions and limited tickets for elections, but the party has always made efforts to give due respect and responsibility to its workers. The organisation certainly recognises those who remain continuously connected with the party and work with commitment,” he said.
At the same time, he appealed to party workers to maintain discipline and express their views within the framework of organisational values. He said the BJP is a cadre‑based organisation, and that discipline, commitment and collective effort would be essential to achieving the objective of Mission Punjab 2027.
Responding to questions about a possible alliance, Poonia made the BJP’s position clear, saying he was conveying the direct message of the central leadership that the party will contest all 117 Assembly seats on its own strength. He clarified that political leaders meeting PM Modi should not automatically be interpreted as an indication of an alliance.
“I am the ambassador of the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its clear message is that we will contest all 117 seats on our own strength. A meeting does not mean an alliance. In a democracy, people and political leaders can meet the Prime Minister to discuss various issues. It should not be interpreted as an indication of any political understanding,” Poonia said.
He added that in the coming days he would hold detailed organisational meetings in Jalandhar with state office‑bearers, district presidents and district in‑charges, and interact with leaders and workers to understand the party’s strengths, challenges and priorities. The party would systematically review the organisation, strengthen its grassroots presence and prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the elections.
