Those having ability to win will get tickets for Bengal civic body polls: Sukanta Majumdar

Kolkata, Aug 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Minister of State (MoS) for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, said on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will give municipal corporation election tickets to those who have the ability to win the polls.

This was clearly said by Sukanta Majumdar, City BJP In-charge for upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) election.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, the MoS said, "Only those who can win the polls will get tickets. In that case, their popularity, identity and activities will be examined."

The elections in KMC and Howrah Municipal Corporations (HMC) will be held after Durga Puja (October).

The BJP has appointed election in-charges for the two places.

In Kolkata, Sukanta Majumdar has been made the party's in-charge and in Howrah, Rajya Sabha MP and another former State BJP President Rahul Sinha is the party's in-charge.

They have geared up for the election preparations and frequent meetings, gatherings, and public relations are going on in this regard.

Kolkata BJP In-charge Sukanta Majumdar spoke to reporters about this on Sunday and said, "How long someone has been associated with the party, who is organisationally skilled, those are not considered here. That is considered in the case of any position in the organisation. The only thing that will be considered for the election is who can win. That person will get the ticket. What is the chance of those people winning at all, how popular they are -- all these things will be carefully examined and then the right candidate will be selected."

Responding to queries whether those who are new to the BJP will become candidates, the Union Minister said, "Those decisions have not been taken. And who are new to the BJP? The BJP has not made anyone join them. If someone considers himself a BJP leader now, then there is nothing to be done."

Calculations indicate that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation will have 209 wards following the delimitation process. Consequently, the BJP would need to secure 105 seats to come to power in the civic body.
