Gujarat: ‘She Teams’ celebrate Raksha Bandhan with DGP, senior citizens and police veterans

Ahmedabad, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Police’s ‘She Team’ marked Raksha Bandhan on Friday by tying a 'Raksha Sutra' to Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Singh Malik, while teams across the state also visited senior citizens, senior police officers and retired police personnel at their homes to celebrate the festival centred on the bond of protection.

As part of the special Raksha Bandhan programme, the ‘She Team’ attached to Gujarat University Police Station in Ahmedabad City met Malik and tied the sacred thread, regarded as a symbol of protection, while wishing him a long life.

The Gujarat Police chief welcomed the initiative by the women police personnel and appreciated the work undertaken by the ‘She Team’ to enhance the safety and security of women and citizens.

The programme extended beyond senior police officials, with ‘She Teams’ across Gujarat visiting senior citizens and retired and serving police officers at their residences.

The teams tied rakhis and raksha sutras during the visits as part of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations.

The initiative was also observed within Ahmedabad City Police, where members of the city’s ‘She Team’ tied a rakhi to the Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut as part of the festival.

The visits were organised around the theme of protection and companionship, with police personnel personally meeting people who were being included in the celebrations rather than limiting the programme to police establishments.

Raksha Bandhan, traditionally marked by sisters tying a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists, was observed across Gujarat on Friday.

The police teams used the occasion to strengthen their interaction with senior citizens and members of the police community, including those who have retired from service.

The ‘She Team’ initiative forms part of Gujarat Police’s efforts to provide assistance and security to women and other vulnerable sections of society.

The teams generally work at the local level and are involved in responding to concerns relating to women’s safety and providing support and assistance where required.
