Yogesh Tripathi Reveals The Fun Behind Saali Poori Ghar Waali And Its Comic Timing

Yogesh H Tripathi is ready to bring plenty of laughter to the stage with the upcoming Hindi live comedy play Saali Poori Ghar Waali. Known for his popular portrayal of Happu Singh in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Yogesh is now joining Upasana Singh, Vidisha Srivastava and Naveen Bawa for a family entertainer packed with misunderstandings, quirky characters and chaotic domestic situations.

Talking about the play, Yogesh revealed that the story revolves around four important characters, including a caretaker who has become much more than just an employee for the family. He described his character as an interesting and comical personality with several shades, while also teasing the mystery behind the unusual title.

“There are four characters in this; the caretaker—you could also call him a cook or someone who looks after you—is practically a family member. He has been living with the family for years and is a truly wonderful, comical character. His name is 'Thappad,' and he has many interesting shades; it’s going to be a lot of fun. Regarding the confusion—like the curiosity sparked by the title—watching the play will clear everything up for the audience.”

The unusual name “Thappad” is clearly another reason audiences can expect plenty of comic moments. While Yogesh did not reveal too much about the character or the twists surrounding the title, he suggested that the play is designed to let the audience discover the answers naturally. In other words, the less you know going in, the more fun the revelations could be.

One of the biggest challenges of live comedy is getting the timing right. Unlike television or films, theatre does not offer actors the luxury of multiple takes. Every reaction, pause and punchline has to land in real time, with the entire cast relying on one another to keep the rhythm going.

Yogesh explained that the experience can certainly be challenging, but the talented cast makes the process much smoother. “Well, it can be challenging, but look at someone like Upasana-ji—she is so senior and experienced, and her comic timing is excellent. We have also been involved in comedy shows.”

He also spoke about the theatrical experience within the cast, pointing out that Upasana Singh has experience in theatre while he began his own journey on stage in Lucknow. That shared understanding of live performance has helped the actors develop a natural rhythm during rehearsals.

“She has done theater, and I started my journey in theater in Lucknow. All the actors are so good that the timing happens naturally; the support you get from one another allows you to deliver your best.”

For Yogesh, comedy is not about one actor delivering a punchline and expecting the audience to laugh. It is about what happens between performers in the moments immediately afterwards. He summed up that chemistry in a simple way: “If I give a reaction, their response naturally complements it, and that’s what makes it enjoyable for the audience. You can't do it alone—it’s all about action and reaction.”

That action and reaction could become one of the biggest strengths of Saali Poori Ghar Waali. With four characters sharing the stage and each having an important role in the story, the play appears to depend heavily on chemistry rather than one performer carrying the entire show.

The cast brings plenty of comedy experience to the production. Upasana Singh is known for her work on Comedy Nights with Kapil, while Yogesh H Tripathi has become a familiar face through Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!. Vidisha Srivastava, who plays Anita Mishra or Gori Mem in the popular sitcom, also joins the cast, while Naveen Bawa serves as the writer and director of the play.

Saali Poori Ghar Waali is a family-friendly situational comedy built around marriage, household relationships, misunderstandings and the kind of domestic confusion that can quickly turn into hilarious chaos. With its small cast, unusual characters and emphasis on live comic timing, the production aims to give audiences an evening filled with laughter.

And if Yogesh Tripathi’s description is anything to go by, audiences may have to wait until the curtain rises to truly understand what the title and the character of Thappad are all about. Sometimes, the best comedy is the kind that comes with a little mystery — and Saali Poori Ghar Waali seems to have plenty of it.
