Kolkata, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) To avoid confusion among junior staff in Kolkata Police about their dos and don’ts during emergency duty, senior officials of the Kolkata Police will henceforth send video instructions before being deputed for such situations or law and order-related duties.
An instruction on this count has already been issued from the office of the city police commissioner, Ajay K. Nanda, where officers in the ranks of deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners have been advised to send the video instructions to inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, sergeants and other subordinate ranks before sending them for emergency duties.
However, a senior city police official said that such video instructions, to be shared in the respective WhatsApp Groups, should not be more than two minutes in duration. According to him, this two-minute time limit has been fixed as longer video instructions might add to confusion rather than reducing it.
Accordingly, police officers sharing such video instructions should tailor them accordingly so that the instructions do not exceed the time limit.
“Before any law and order-related event in the city like processions, major gatherings or protest marches, senior officers brief their subordinate officers or staff on what to do and what not to do. But at times, the instructions do not properly percolate to junior officers or staff, especially at the levels of sub-inspectors, sergeants and other subordinate staff. As a result, many police personnel or officers do not understand what they have to do during duty or what their role would be in maintaining law and order. Now, to remove those confusions, the move on short video instructions has been initiated,” said the city police officer.
In the new system, deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner-level officers have also been asked not only to share the video instructions in the respective WhatsApp groups, but also ensure that the video instructions have been accessed and understood by their junior staff.
“As a result, every subordinate police officer and staff will be able to know their specific duties in case of emergency or law and order related duties and prepare themselves for any situation,” the city police officer said.
