Bhopal, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh government procured 5.33 lakh tonnes of summer moong in the 2026 season, nearly exhausting the quantity the Centre approved under the PM‑AASHA scheme, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Thursday.
Chouhan said the Centre had increased the approved procurement quantity after the state government sought additional allocation to ensure that farmers willing to sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) were not left out.
“The Centre had initially approved 4,54,580 metric tonnes of moong for Madhya Pradesh and, keeping the interests of farmers in mind, another 84,492 metric tonnes was approved. This took the total approved quantity to 5,39,072 metric tonnes,” Chouhan said in a statement.
He spoke after reviewing moong procurement and crop insurance‑related issues with Madhya Pradesh’s agriculture and horticulture ministers in a virtual meeting in New Delhi.
The procurement period has ended, and the state purchased 5.33 lakh tonnes of moong, according to the figures shared at the meeting. Chouhan said all willing and registered farmers were covered under the procurement process and received the MSP for their produce.
The procurement was carried out mainly through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF).
In comparison, Madhya Pradesh procured 3,93,123.79 tonnes of moong during the summer 2025 season against an approved quantity of 4,19,692 tonnes.
The meeting also reviewed implementation of the restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
Chouhan said the Centre had provided the term sheet that the state requested to implement RWBCIS and asked the authorities to expedite the process.
The Centre also discussed implementing the Weather Information Network and Data System (WINDS) in Madhya Pradesh. Officials noted that its implementation was pending and would be important for effective execution of RWBCIS.
The Centre also suggested reintroducing Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) to validate and recalibrate technology‑based crop yield assessment models. The Centre also discussed a blended approach combining technology‑based estimates with field‑level assessments.
“Procurement, timely payment and an effective crop insurance system are all important for protecting farmers’ interests. The Centre and Madhya Pradesh will work together to strengthen these arrangements further,” Chouhan added.
