Khandwa, Aug 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a grand Panchayatan Temple at Ekatma Dham here, a project that seeks to showcase the spiritual philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya along with the architectural traditions of ancient India.
CM Yadav, accompanied by his wife Seema, performed worship of 45 sacred stones at a ceremony held in the presence of representatives of the Sannyasa tradition, saints of the Shad-darshan Sant Mandal and other dignitaries.
The worship ceremony was conducted according to Vedic rituals by the Principal of Sri Venkateswara Veda Vigyan Peetham in Andhra Pradesh and Acharyas associated with Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham in Karnataka and Sri Sri Gurukul.
“Panchayatan Puja reflects the vision of Adi Shankaracharya to establish harmony among different traditions of worship. It conveys the message that diverse forms of worship ultimately lead to the same supreme reality,” according to a statement from the Chief Minister's office.
The temple is being constructed in the traditional Nagara style and will use around 80,000 cubic feet of carved pink sandstone. Lord Shiva will have the central shrine, while four subsidiary shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Surya, Ganesha and Goddess Shakti will be located at the four corners of the temple complex. The main shrine will feature a Somatilak-style shikhara, while the sanctum sanctorum will follow the Sarvatobhadra design, with entrances from all four directions.
The temple will have 100 artistically carved pillars, eight Samvarna structures and ornate Toran-dwars. Its main mandapa will feature a 26-foot-diameter dome, one of the prominent architectural elements of the complex.
The structure will stand on a 16-foot-high Jagati and will be adorned with 121 Kalashas. Its exterior will incorporate traditional elements such as Bhadra, Karna, Pratiratha and Devakoshta, besides ornamental panels.
“The temple will be a symbol of India’s ancient architectural and sculptural heritage and will carry forward the message of spiritual unity associated with Adi Shankaracharya,” it said.
The Panchayatan system, revived by Adi Shankaracharya, seeks to bring harmony among Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakta, Saura and Ganapatya traditions by treating Shiva, Vishnu, Surya, Ganesha and Shakti as different manifestations of the same supreme reality.
The temple at Ekatma Dham is being developed as both a centre of worship and a showcase of traditional Indian architecture and sculpture.
