Raj And DK Celebrate 9 Years Of A Gentleman

Nine years after A Gentleman: Sundar, Susheel, Risky hit theatres, filmmakers Raj and DK are looking back at the film with plenty of affection. The filmmaker duo recently marked the anniversary of the Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer, reminding fans why the action comedy was such an unusual experiment when it arrived in 2017.

Raj and DK shared a short anniversary video featuring a dynamic action mural and the words "A GENTLEMAN ANNIVERSARY." Along with the visual, the duo opened up about the idea that inspired the film and expressed their happiness that audiences continue to remember and appreciate it years after its release.

Sharing their thoughts, Raj and DK wrote, "A cool crime comedy set in our yester-year world… the NRI world… a genre-blend of real life corporate IT world and reel life crime-comedy. What really pushed us to make A Gentleman was the unique twist we cracked for a classic double role film, something that hadn't been done before. Kicked that the film gets all this love all these years later. #AGentleman"

At the centre of A Gentleman was Sidharth Malhotra in a double role, with the story playing around contrasting personalities and identities. The film mixed the polished world of corporate life and the NRI lifestyle with action, crime and comedy, creating a genre cocktail that was very much in line with Raj and DK's knack for unusual concepts.

The Miami setting also gave the film a distinct visual identity. Instead of placing its protagonist in the familiar Bollywood action environment, the filmmakers built a world around an apparently perfect, successful professional whose life gradually becomes tangled in a much more dangerous situation. That contrast between the clean corporate world and the messy world of crime became one of the film's key ingredients.

Jacqueline Fernandez played the female lead, while Suniel Shetty and Darshan Kumar were also part of the cast. With action sequences, comedy, romance and the double-role mystery all packed into one film, A Gentleman refused to fit neatly into a single genre.

The film was directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. and produced by Fox Star Studios. Its music was composed by Sachin-Jigar, while Roman Jakobi handled cinematography and Aarif Sheikh was responsible for the editing.
