Moderate rain forecast for Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats districts for six days

Chennai, Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats districts are likely to experience moderate rainfall over the next six days, the Regional Meteorological Centre said in its latest weather forecast.

According to a statement issued by the weather department, conditions are favourable for rainfall in areas along the Western Ghats beginning Wednesday. The spell is expected to continue for six days, offering some relief from the prevailing daytime heat in several parts of the State.

The districts situated along the mountain range generally receive rainfall when moisture-laden winds interact with the elevated terrain.

Under the present weather conditions, intermittent showers are expected across these regions during the forecast period. However, the department has not indicated the likelihood of widespread heavy rainfall.

Apart from the Western Ghats districts, moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Madurai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts on Wednesday. Residents in these southern districts may experience cloudy conditions and brief spells of rain during the day.

The forecast suggests that the rainfall may not be uniform across the three districts.

While certain places could receive moderate showers, other areas may witness light rain or remain largely dry.

Local weather conditions are expected to determine the intensity and duration of the showers. Chennai is also likely to receive moderate rainfall on Wednesday.

The weather department said the city’s daytime temperature is expected to remain comparatively low because of increased cloud cover and the possibility of showers.

The rain could provide temporary relief from humid weather in the State capital. Cloudy skies are likely to keep the temperature under control, although humidity may continue to remain noticeable, particularly during rain-free periods.

Motorists and commuters in Chennai and the southern districts have been advised to remain cautious if showers reduce visibility or cause water accumulation on roads.

People travelling through the Western Ghats and adjoining areas should also monitor local weather conditions, as rainfall can vary considerably over short distances in hilly terrain.

The department will continue to observe the developing weather conditions and issue updated forecasts if there is any significant change in the intensity or distribution of rainfall.

Farmers and residents in rain-prone areas have been asked to follow official weather updates during the six-day period. The forecast indicates a relatively wet spell for parts of western and southern Tamil Nadu, while Chennai can expect cooler daytime conditions accompanied by occasional showers on Wednesday.
