Factional conflict within BJP emerges in Bengal's Hooghly after party leader alleges attack

Kolkata, Aug 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Factional conflicts within the ruling BJP in West Bengal have come to the fore after a local BJP leader alleged that a section of party workers beat up his wife and son after barging into his house in Hooghly district's Tarakeshwar.

According to the police, BJP's Arambagh district Vice President Ganesh Chakraborty alleged that some people entered their house on Monday night and assaulted his family. According to him, they are BJP-affiliated miscreants.

"They turned off the lights in the house and beat up my wife and son," he claimed.

He said that the assailants entered their house in Chapadanga College Road, Schoolpara, when he was not at home, and hit his minor son on the head while his wife was also beaten up. The attackers fled before the neighbours came to their rescue. Later, his wife and son had to be taken to the hospital. He has lodged a complaint regarding the incident at Tarakeshwar police station.

Chakraborty's wife Mita Chakraborty is also a BJP member and is the secretary of Tarakeshwar-4 mandal.

Chakraborty claimed that a section of the party was behind this attack because he had spoken out against the corruption allegations against the former Tarakeshwar Municipality Chairman, Uttam Kundu. "A few new people have come to the BJP after the party came to power. They are involved in this attack," he alleged.

His relationship with Tarakeshwar MLA Santu Pan is also strained.

The BJP leader's wife and son were treated at Tarakeshwar Hospital. After receiving a complaint from Chakraborty, officers of Tarakeshwar police station have started an inquiry into the matter.

None of the local BJP leaders spoke out regarding the allegations of factional conflict.

Recently, Union Minister and Balurghat MP Sukanta Majumdar gave a warning about factional fights within the BJP. State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya too has spoken out against factional conflicts and warned of strong action against those who are involved in such acts.
