Chennai, Aug 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy on Monday slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over the decision to drop the Parandur Airport project, saying it reflected the "immaturity and incompetence" of the state government.
Speaking to IANS, Thirupathy said: "It is most unfortunate. It shows the immaturity and incompetence of this government because, for more than four to five years, the government was working on a new airport project, which would have boosted the entire economy of Tamil Nadu."
"All of it has gone to waste. This is very dirty and silly politics that Mr Vijay has played. This decision is most condemnable and is not good for the state of Tamil Nadu. I think he should reconsider what he has done. This is absolutely ridiculous and should not have happened," he said.
Thirupathy said that challenges were bound to arise in such major infrastructure projects, but they should be addressed through discussions and negotiations.
"The challenges will be there. He should discuss the matter and work on it. You can speak to the people and provide proper compensation; that is the only way. This is completely wrong. I can say that he is clueless," the BJP leader added.
Thirupathy also questioned the state government over the reduction in both the number of LPG cylinders and the number of beneficiaries under the newly announced welfare scheme compared to the party's election promise.
"What was their promise during the elections? Their manifesto promised six cylinders per year for all households. But now they have come out with a scheme offering only three cylinders. Why have you deceived the people of Tamil Nadu? You knew that you could not fulfil the promise, yet you fooled the people," he said.
"The promised quantity is not there, and the promised number of beneficiaries has also come down drastically. It is a clear betrayal of the people. The BJP in Tamil Nadu strongly condemns this," Thirupathy said.
Vijay announced the Annapoorani Super Six scheme in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday, under which eligible families will receive the cost of three LPG cylinders annually directly into their bank accounts.
The scheme will be implemented from Pongal 2027 and is expected to benefit around 1.30 crore families with an annual household income below Rs 2.5 lakh.
The Tamil Nadu government estimates that the scheme will cost the state exchequer around Rs 4,000 crore annually.
