Solar power makes irrigation easier for Jhajjar farmer under PM-KUSUM scheme

Jhajjar, Aug 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) For farmer Parveen Kumar of Khajpur village in Jhajjar district, a solar-powered irrigation pump installed under the PM-KUSUM scheme has made farming and nursery work easier and more convenient.

A three-acre farmer, Parveen, told IANS that the solar pump has reduced his dependence on conventional electricity for irrigation. With government support and subsidy, he is able to operate the pump during the daytime according to his requirements, without worrying about when electricity will be available.

“Earlier, I had to keep thinking about when the electricity would come and when I could run the water pump. Now, I can complete my irrigation work during the day at my convenience,” Parveen said.

Under the scheme, Parveen contributed 25 per cent of the cost, while 75 per cent was provided as a government subsidy. He says the financial assistance, along with the benefits of solar energy, has made the system particularly useful for his farming activities.

Parveen also runs a small nursery, where timely irrigation is essential. Earlier, he often had to wait for electricity supply before watering the plants. The solar pump has changed that routine, allowing him to irrigate the nursery whenever required during daylight hours.

“I also run a small nursery. Earlier, there was always the problem of waiting for electricity to operate the water pump. Now, I can complete the entire work during the daytime as per my convenience,” he said.

For Parveen, one of the biggest advantages of the solar pump is the freedom it provides from waiting for electricity at night. He can complete his irrigation and nursery-related work during the day and use the evening hours to rest.

The PM-KUSUM scheme is helping farmers reduce their dependence on grid electricity for irrigation while providing a reliable and convenient source of daytime power.
