Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) A jeweller was allegedly attacked and robbed by a group of unidentified men in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on Sunday evening.
The assailants reportedly looted around 2.5 kg of silver and Rs 900 in cash after assaulting the trader with sticks.
The injured trader, Ramesh Nigam, a resident of Babupur, was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his jewellery shop in Saraiyan when the incident took place.
According to the trader, when he reached the area between Jannagar Mor and Kesripur, around six unidentified men riding two motorcycles intercepted him. The suspects were reportedly travelling on a Pulsar and a Splendor Plus.
The attackers allegedly assaulted Nigam with sticks, causing an injury to his head and forcing him to fall onto the road. They then snatched his bag and fled from the spot on their motorcycles.
Nigam told police that the bag contained approximately 2.5 kg of silver and Rs 900 in cash. The value of the silver is estimated to be between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.
After receiving information about the incident, Dial 112 police reached the spot and took the injured trader to the CHC in Pahla. Dr Ashish examined him and confirmed a head injury. After initial treatment, Nigam was referred to the district hospital for further care.
Following the incident, Sitapur SP Ankur Agrawal and ASP (South) Durgesh Singh also reached the scene. The officers inspected the spot and gathered information about possible CCTV footage and other leads.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the unidentified assailants. SP Agrawal shared the sequence and other details of the incident. He said the police team is carrying out the investigation and further action will be taken. Police are zeroing in on all those involved in the crime.
