Kolkata, Aug 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tension is prevailing at Nazat village under Sandeshkhali-I block in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal with several rounds of bullets being fired targeting the residence of a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader on Saturday.
The local people claimed that a group of miscreants attacked the house of the local BJP leader, Jumman Sheikh in the morning. He and his family members were sleeping at the time of the incident.
“The miscreants came from the adjacent field and surrounded the house and started firing indiscriminately. When the locals woke up to the sound of gunfire, the miscreants quickly escaped from the scene,” a local resident told media persons.
Upon receiving the information, cops from the Nazat Police Station quickly reached the spot. An investigation has been initiated by the police and several bullet shells have been recovered from various parts of the house. The police also detected bullet marks on the walls of the residence of the local BJP leader.
A local police officer said that the entire incident is being investigated with utmost seriousness. “Police patrolling has been increased to maintain peace and law and order in the area and to quickly identify the accused and bring them to justice,” the local cop added.
Meanwhile, Jumman Sheikh has claimed that close associates of now-suspended Trinamool Congress leader, Shajahan Sheikh, once considered the terror of Sandeshkhali, were behind the attack on this residence.
“I am requesting our Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari to direct the police to ensure our safety and arrest the attackers at the earliest,” said Jumman.
His brother, Jahangir Sheikh, who was also present at the house when the firing took place, told media persons that he was sleeping while the attack took place.
“After being awakened by the sound of the gunfire, I peeped outside and saw that a group of miscreants had surrounded our house and were firing indiscriminately,” said Jahangir.
