Babita Singh Reporting Brings Nimisha Sajayan Into A Murder Mystery Full Of Secrets

One murder, a suspended police officer and a town full of secrets — Prime Video is setting up an intriguing investigative drama with Babita Singh Reporting. Starring Nimisha Sajayan, Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar, the upcoming film will premiere on Prime Video on August 28, promising a story where finding the truth could mean digging into some very uncomfortable corners of the past.

Prime Video India announced the release date along with the first look of the film, teasing audiences with the line, “one murder, too many secrets awaiting.” The tagline neatly captures the mystery at the centre of the story, while Nimisha's presence in the lead role adds considerable interest to a film that combines crime investigation with a deeply personal character journey.

Nimisha Sajayan plays Babita Singh, affectionately known as Baby, a police officer who has been suspended from duty. Her professional troubles, however, do not stop her from investigating when her childhood friend dies under mysterious circumstances. Unable to simply accept what she is told, Baby decides to look into the death herself, setting off a chain of discoveries that could change the way she sees the people around her.

What makes the premise particularly interesting is that Baby's investigation does not remain limited to the murder itself. As she searches for answers, she is drawn into the lives of people connected to the case. The investigation also forces her to confront her own family, relationships and decisions from the past, making Babita Singh Reporting as much about the woman behind the investigation as it is about solving a crime.

The film is set in a small Indian town, a setting that could add another layer of tension to the story. In a close-knit community where everyone seems to know everyone, secrets can be difficult to hide but even harder to uncover. The intimate setting also gives the mystery a more personal feel, with Baby potentially finding that the people closest to her may have more to reveal than they initially let on.

Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar join Nimisha in the cast, bringing further curiosity to the project. While details about their characters are being kept under wraps, their involvement adds to an ensemble built around a story where relationships and hidden truths appear to be equally important.

Ambiecka Pandit directs Babita Singh Reporting, with Amita Vyas writing the screenplay. The film is produced by Saurabh Malhotra, Manuj Mittra and Tina Tharwani under Film Squad Productions in association with Act Three, while Sudip Sharma serves as executive producer. The creative team suggests a project firmly focused on character, atmosphere and investigative storytelling rather than simply using the murder mystery as a hook.

For Nimisha Sajayan, the film offers another opportunity to take on a complex and grounded character. Baby is not introduced as an all-powerful investigator who has every answer. She is a suspended officer dealing with her own circumstances while trying to understand the death of someone she has known since childhood. That combination of personal stakes and professional instincts could make her journey particularly compelling.

The mystery surrounding the film is likely to be one of its biggest attractions. Who is responsible for the death? Why are there so many secrets surrounding it? And how much will Baby discover about the people and relationships she thought she understood? With Prime Video keeping the details close to the chest, audiences will have to wait for the film to reveal how all the pieces fit together.

Meanwhile, Barun Sobti has another interesting project on the horizon, as he will also be seen in Welcome to Khoya Mahal alongside Aditi Rao Hydari. But before that, viewers can meet Babita Singh and follow her dangerous search for the truth when Babita Singh Reporting premieres on Prime Video on August 28.
