Agartala, Aug 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Keeping pace with other states, Tripura is moving ahead in full swing in the start‑up sector and has been recognised as a ‘Leader’ in the Start‑up India Ranking, Information and Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said on Monday.
At present, Tripura has 80 functional start‑ups and eight incubators. According to Start‑up India data, the number of women‑led start‑ups in the state has increased remarkably in recent years.
The IT Minister made these remarks after inaugurating a workshop on the progress of start‑ups in Tripura, titled “Building a Unicorn in Tripura”, held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala. He said the workshop aims to generate start‑up ideas among the youth, build a mindset to grow new start-ups into large businesses, and position Tripura as an important part of the country’s start‑up ecosystem.
Singha Roy said Tripura launched its Start‑up Ecosystem Plan and Start‑up Scheme in 2019. These initiatives aim to support IT‑based enterprises, enhance innovative skills and generate employment opportunities in the state. The government has also taken several initiatives to strengthen the start‑up ecosystem further.
He added that the workshop does not merely aim to discuss the state’s start‑up scenario, but also seeks to create opportunities for young people to build companies that can generate employment, encourage innovations and enable Tripura’s entrepreneurs to compete in the global market.
Start‑ups should not be viewed merely as businesses, but as a significant driving force for strengthening the state’s economy and generating employment, the minister said.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as one of the world's largest start‑up ecosystems, he said, adding that Tripura is working to become an integral part of this journey.
The minister said the State Innovation Mission was launched in Agartala in February 2026. The mission aims to create an environment that brings together innovative ideas and technology and transforms them into viable businesses.
Other speakers at the event included Kiran Gitte, Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Prashant Kumar Goyal, Secretary of the IT Department.
To provide financial and technical assistance to small start‑ups in Tripura, the IT Department also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with a private bank and other organisations. The agreements are expected to improve access to financial and technical support for emerging entrepreneurs and further strengthen the state's start‑up ecosystem, an IT Department official said.
