Assam flood toll rises to 104; over 78,000 affected

Guwahati, Aug 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The cumulative death toll in Assam’s flood‑related incidents has risen to 104, officials said on Friday, as the latest flood situation continued to affect thousands of people across seven districts of the state.

According to the Assam Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS), Nagaon, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Kamrup, Hojai, Jorhat and Lakhimpur are currently affected. A total of 313 villages across 20 revenue circles have been impacted, with 78,637 people, including men, women and children, affected by the inundation.

Officials said relief and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas, with 68 relief camps opened across the districts. As many as 5,057 people are currently staying in these camps, including 761 children, 58 pregnant or lactating women and four persons with disabilities.

Nagaon has recorded the highest number of affected people at 26,292, followed by Golaghat with 30,778, Sivasagar with 12,480 and Jorhat with 9,087. The floods have also submerged around 8,268.71 hectares of crop area, according to the latest official assessment.

Officials said one confirmed flood death has been recorded in Sivasagar in the latest assessment, while no person has been reported missing. Rescue operations have been stepped up, with agencies deploying boats in affected areas. The report said 117 people were evacuated by boats, while rescue teams and medical personnel remained deployed in the flood‑hit districts.

Floodwaters have also damaged infrastructure, including roads and bridges. The latest report lists 32 damaged roads and one damaged bridge, while several stretches in Sivasagar and Nagaon have been affected.

Officials said district administrations have been directed to maintain relief operations and closely monitor the situation as water levels and weather conditions continue to be assessed.
