TN BJP chief demands action against Coimbatore college management after student's killing

Coimbatore, Aug 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday demanded stringent police action against the management of Hindusthan College in Coimbatore, alleging that its failure to protect the confidentiality of a student's complaint over drug trafficking had put his life at risk and eventually led to his killing.

In a statement, Nagenthran expressed shock and grief over the death of Amuthan, a third-year student of the college, who was allegedly beaten to death by a group of around 20 people after he complained to the college authorities about suspected drug trafficking on the campus.

He conveyed his condolences to Amuthan's parents and other family members, saying the death of a young student under such circumstances was deeply disturbing.

The BJP leader used the incident to attack the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, questioning its campaign against narcotics.

He alleged that the killing demonstrated the seriousness of the drug menace in Tamil Nadu and raised concerns about the safety of students who come forward with information about illegal activities.

According to Nagenthran, Amuthan had attempted to alert the authorities about what he described as a growing drug culture in his college.

He alleged that the administration failed in its responsibility to safeguard the student after receiving the complaint.

Nagenthran said the state government's anti-drug initiatives would have little credibility if students who reported suspected narcotics-related activities could not be adequately protected.

He called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing and the events that preceded it.

He urged police to identify and immediately arrest everyone involved in the alleged attack and ensure that those responsible were brought before the law without delay.

Nagenthran also demanded a separate and impartial investigation into the role of the college administration.

He said the police should examine whether the confidentiality of Amuthan's complaint was compromised and whether any failure on the part of the management exposed him to danger.

Strict action should be taken against anyone found responsible for disclosing information relating to the complaint or failing to provide necessary protection to the student, Nagenthran said, adding that accountability should extend beyond those directly involved in the fatal assault.
