Madurai, Aug 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Sub-Registrar Justin Manikandan Subramanian, an accused in the alleged fraudulent registration of property worth about Rs 100 crore belonging to the Dhandayuthapani Swamigal Mutt in Palani town of Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district, was admitted to the emergency ward of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai on Wednesday after complaining of chest pain.
The development came as Dindigul Judicial Magistrate Bhakyaraj dismissed regular bail petitions filed by Manikandan and another accused, document writer-cum-broker Jayaprakash.
The two had sought regular bail after the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court rejected their anticipatory bail petitions on August 5.
The High Court had said that granting them anticipatory bail at that stage could affect the investigation.
They subsequently moved the Magistrate court on August 8, with Manikandan citing his health condition as one of the grounds for bail.
The Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) arrested Manikandan from a house in the Kodaikanal hills on August 6 as part of its investigation into the alleged fraudulent registration of the Mutt property.
While being questioned at the CB-CID office in Dindigul, Manikandan complained of dizziness and was taken to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital.
Doctors detected high blood pressure and recommended hospitalisation. He was later shifted to the intensive care unit of the cardiology department for further treatment.
Magistrate Bhakyaraj subsequently visited the hospital and after confirming that Manikandan was undergoing treatment, remanded him in judicial custody until August 21.
He remained under treatment while in judicial custody before being taken to GRH in Madurai following the latest complaint of chest pain.
Jayaprakash surrendered before the CB-CID in Dindigul on August 7 amid a search for him. He was remanded in judicial custody until August 21 and lodged in Madurai Central Prison.
Manikandan's hospitalisation has drawn attention as it comes days after the death of another accused in the case, 65-year-old advocate S. Anwardeen.
Anwardeen died after developing chest pain following his return to Madurai Central Prison after three days of CB-CID questioning.
He had been suffering from several health problems, including paralysis affecting the right side of his body, diabetes and high blood pressure.
He developed chest pain in prison and died while being taken to Government Rajaji Hospital for treatment.
The CB-CID investigation into the alleged fraudulent registration of the Palani Mutt property is continuing.
