Aizawl, Aug 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) on Monday participated in the “10 Crore Addiction‑Free Pledge Mega Campaign”, organised by the Brahma Kumaris under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Mission SPANDAN (Spiritual Partnership Against Narcotic Drug Abuse) in Aizawl.
Addressing the gathering, Singh described drug and substance addiction as a serious issue that concerns everyone. He emphasised that ensuring and leading an addiction‑free society would make a tremendous difference.
Noting that India has a large young demographic, he stressed the need to properly guide the youth so they do not fall prey to drugs and substance addiction, thereby becoming healthy and productive citizens who will form the foundation of India’s future.
The Governor observed that Mizoram’s location along international borders has contributed to the high prevalence of drugs in the state.
He further noted that Mizoram has one of the highest overall cancer incidence rates and ranks among the states with the highest HIV prevalence, underscoring the urgent need for intensified efforts.
He expressed confidence that through awareness, determination and cooperation, the state can successfully overcome drug and substance abuse, cancer and HIV. Singh urged students to remain steadfast in their resolve to stay free from drugs and to say “No” whenever they face temptation firmly.
Reminding students of the hard work and high expectations of their parents and teachers, he said: “We have very high hopes in you because of the bright future you hold. As the future of your families, society and the state rests heavily upon you, do not let them down.”
He told the students that by thoroughly understanding the harms of drugs and substance abuse, they can become important ambassadors who educate others, and called upon them to lead exemplary lives that inspire as many people as possible.
The Governor further advised them to maintain physical and mental health through regular exercise and meditation to remain free from drugs and substances.
