Nayanthara Reveals Why She Attended Toxic Trailer Launch: “Yash Just Made a Call and It Was Enough for Me”

Nayanthara is not exactly known for enthusiastically attending film promotions, but Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups was clearly an exception. At the film's grand trailer launch in Bengaluru, the actress opened up about why she chose to be there with the entire ensemble and revealed that a simple phone call from Yash was enough to change her mind. “It's not that I don't want to attend promotional events. It's just that I'm not very good at it, so I stay away from it. But this was special,” Nayanthara said, before adding, “I think it's just Yash. He just made a call and it was enough for me to just attend the event.”

The actress also made it clear that her decision was driven by the special nature of the film and the people behind it. Nayanthara thanked producer Venkat K. Narayana for bringing the entire team together and believing in director Geetu Mohandas' vision. “Thank you so much for bringing all of us together and for believing in a vision that Geetu had from a script, from a baseline. There's no way you could have thought that this is going to be what we have all seen and experienced,” she said, describing the producer as one of the nicest she has worked with. For Nayanthara, Toxic appears to have been as much about the people as it has been about the film itself.

She then turned her attention to the remarkable ensemble, showering love on her co-stars. Speaking about Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara said she had been following her journey and was proud of the films she has been choosing. Her praise for Kiara Advani was even more striking, with Nayanthara predicting a major turning point in her career after Toxic. “This is one of the best films that you have done in your entire career. And like you said, there's a Kiara before and there's going to be a Kiara after Toxic,” she said, adding that Kiara looks absolutely stunning in the film.

Nayanthara also brought a playful, affectionate energy while speaking about Tara Sutaria. Referring to the actress' Disney princess image, she said, “You actually look like that and you're such a cute, cute, cute girl. So much love to you.” She then spoke warmly about Huma Qureshi, revealing that their time together on the sets turned into a genuine friendship. “On sets, I made a friend. I think me and Huma have spoken the most on sets because we had the most combinations,” Nayanthara shared. Her comments offered a glimpse into the camaraderie that developed among the women of Toxic while working on the ambitious project.

But the actress saved some of her most emotional words for Geetu Mohandas and Yash, the two people at the heart of the film's creative journey. Nayanthara revealed that she and Geetu had actually acted together nearly two decades ago, long before Geetu became the filmmaker behind Toxic. When Geetu approached her with the script, Nayanthara was initially hesitant because the film had a large ensemble. But after hearing the narration, her reaction changed completely. “From the moment she narrated it to me, I was like, ‘Who is this woman? Who is this director that we have not seen? You are going to witness something incredible,’” she recalled.

Nayanthara also spoke about the unique bond between the cast and Geetu, praising the filmmaker for being emotionally present for her actors. “The woman that you are, the way you took care of each and every actor, the way you gave love when everyone needed you,” she said. Recalling a difficult moment on set, Nayanthara remembered how Geetu returned from an actor's caravan and, when asked what had happened, simply said, “No, I just gave love.” For Nayanthara, that moment revealed exactly what kind of person Geetu was behind the camera—a filmmaker who didn't just direct her actors but genuinely cared for them.

And then there was Yash—the co-star whose phone call brought Nayanthara to an event she would normally avoid. Her affection for the film and its team was evident throughout her speech, but her opening confession remained perhaps the most charming takeaway from the evening. Toxic has brought together a striking ensemble featuring Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, with Yash taking on a dual role. Directed by Geetu Mohandas and jointly produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, the film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English.

With the trailer finally out, the excitement surrounding Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is reaching fever pitch. The gangster drama promises a stylish, ambitious world, but Nayanthara's words suggest that behind all the scale and spectacle lies a deeply connected team.
