Thunderstorms, gusty winds likely across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

Chennai, Aug 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places on Saturday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has said.

According to the latest weather bulletin, a weak atmospheric circulation extending up to about 5.8 km above sea level persists from the southwest Bay of Bengal across Tamil Nadu towards the north Kerala coast.

Another weak circulation is prevailing in the lower atmospheric levels over the coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu.

Under the influence of these weather systems, isolated places in districts along the Western Ghats are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph on Saturday.

Similar conditions are expected at isolated places across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, where light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong surface winds of 40-50 kmph could occur.

Isolated places elsewhere in Tamil Nadu may also receive light rain with thunderstorms. The weather is expected to become relatively calmer on Sunday, with light to moderate rainfall likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts.

A few isolated locations elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal could receive light rainfall. From August 10 to 12, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

On August 13, isolated light to moderate rainfall has been forecast over the Western Ghats districts, north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Other parts of Tamil Nadu could experience light rainfall at one or two places. The RMC said there was unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between August 8 and 11.

Day temperatures are expected to remain close to normal during the period. In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is likely to remain partly cloudy on Saturday. Thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are possible in some parts of the city during the evening or night.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to hover between 36 and 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 27 and 28 degrees Celsius.
