New Delhi, Aug 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Friday extended greetings on the occasion of National Handloom Day, praising India’s weavers for preserving the country’s rich textile heritage and urging people to support indigenous handloom products.
In a post on X, Nabin said, "Bharat’s true strength lies not just in its diversity, but in the skilled hands that preserve it. On National Handloom Day, we honour our talented weavers whose craftsmanship has kept our rich textile legacy alive across generations.”
“Let us support our weavers and help take India’s heritage from ‘Vocal for Local’ to ‘Local to Global',” he added.
In a video message, Nabin highlighted the global recognition earned by Indian weavers through their craftsmanship.
“Our weavers have earned special recognition across the world because of their unique talent. I believe they have given a distinct identity to India’s traditions through their exceptional craftsmanship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently promoted the vision of ‘Vocal for Local’, and I believe this ideology has provided significant support and encouragement to our weavers,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the nation on National Handloom Day, paying tribute to India’s rich handloom heritage and the generations of weavers and artisans who have preserved the country’s traditional craftsmanship.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Today, on National Handloom Day, we celebrate India’s rich and vibrant handloom heritage. We also salute the skill, creativity and dedication of our weavers and artisans. For generations, they have preserved and enriched our traditions.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the sector, saying, “Our Government will keep supporting the handloom sector, which is an important pillar of rural empowerment, women-led development and fulfilling the dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Do share your favourite handloom products and GRWM videos using #NationalHandloomDay, which will encourage those associated with the sector.”
National Handloom Day is observed every year on August 7 to commemorate the launch of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905. The day recognises the contribution of India’s handloom weavers to preserving the country’s cultural heritage while supporting livelihoods, particularly in rural areas. It also aims to promote the use of handloom products and strengthen the traditional textile sector through greater public awareness and government support.
