New Delhi, Aug 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reviewed the redevelopment of the capital’s agricultural markets and the progress of ongoing as well as proposed development projects across various mandis.
The meeting assessed the status of projects related to Ghazipur, Narela and IFC Ghazipur, while also reviewing the works being undertaken to strengthen basic infrastructure in these markets, said an official statement.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Delhi’s agricultural markets serve as a crucial link between farmers, traders and consumers, and developing them in line with present-day requirements is a priority for the government.
She said well-planned markets equipped with modern facilities and stronger infrastructure would not only make trade more efficient but also strengthen the entire agricultural marketing system.
The government, she added, is regularly reviewing all projects to ensure development works progress according to the stipulated timelines.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the modern poultry market being developed over nearly 15 acres in Ghazipur. Officials informed the Chief Minister that the total cost of the project is Rs193.29 crore.
Construction began in March 2019 and is targeted for completion by December 31, 2026. Around 85 per cent of the work has been completed so far. The market will house shops for 100 wholesale traders along with 120 processing units, said the statement.
During the review of the ongoing development works at the Ghazipur Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Market, officials said work is underway on a 200-metre bypass drainage pipeline to address the problem of waterlogging. The approved cost of the project is Rs17 lakh, said the statement.
They also informed the meeting that the department is conducting regular drives to remove stray animals from the market to maintain cleanliness.
The meeting further reviewed a proposal to develop two additional steel sheds at the Narela Grain Market to meet traders’ requirements. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 11 crore and is expected to be completed by July 2027.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the proposed modern flower market project at the Integrated Freight Complex (IFC), Ghazipur.
Officials informed the meeting that 10 acres of land had been acquired from the DDA in 2001, and the modern flower market is planned to be developed in phases within the IFC Ghazipur complex.
Chief Minister Gupta said the Delhi government is committed to continuously strengthening essential infrastructure in the capital’s agricultural markets and ensuring that all projects move forward as planned.
She said the systematic development of these markets is in the interest of farmers, traders and consumers alike, and the government is working consistently in that direction.
