New Delhi, Aug 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and Delhi government Spokesperson Harish Khurana said on Sunday that Aam Aadmi Party's Delhi convener Saurabh Bharadwaj's allegation of school bicycle scam in the city is "baseless" and an "attempt to divert public attention from the scams in Punjab".
Khurana said the AAP allegation, based on the complaint of a business company, is an attempt to shield Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who is caught in a web of scams, including the one linked to school bags, and six separate exam paper leak cases.
He said AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and his party leaders have lost their mental balance due to the defeat of Delhi.
Khurana has added that the Punjab government made a tailor-made tender and excluded all the local companies of Punjab from the tender process and then a company from Delhi bought four lakh bags with government money for free distribution to the students of Class 11 and Class 12 in government schools.
The BJP leader said the bags were made in the colours of 'AAP' flag -- yellow and blue -- and the Chief Minister's photo was also affixed on them.
Distribution of bags made using the ruling party’s flag colours is like bribing students of Class 11 and Class 12 who will vote for the first time after 18 years in Punjab elections next year, he added.
Khurana said that the businessmen who manufacture and sell school bags in Punjab are angry with the AAP government for purchasing four lakh school bags from outside Punjab at arbitrary prices.
He added that there is no scam in the purchase of bicycles distributed by the Delhi government for distribution among schoolgirls.
He said the Delhi government procured the bicycles for the city's daughters through a completely transparent process.
However, he alleged that AAP leaders have always acted against the interests of Delhi, and that making absurd and baseless allegations reflects their mindset.
The Moti Nagar legislator added that bicycles are available in different models and with different features, and that prices in the Delhi market generally range from Rs 4,000-5,000 to Rs 40,000-50,000.
He categorically said that there has been no bicycle scam in Delhi.
Instead, he alleged, Punjab has witnessed a school bag scam as well as multiple exam paper leak cases, over which protests are taking place in both Delhi and Punjab.
He claimed that AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj is now using a commercial complaint as the basis for making unfounded allegations of a scam in an attempt to divert public attention in Punjab and across the country.
