Bhopal, Aug 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday congratulated Sagar's Yamini Maurya for winning the silver medal in the women's 57 kg judo event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, describing her achievement as a proud moment for the state and an inspiration for aspiring athletes.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said Yamini's success reflected the determination, discipline and hard work of the daughters of Madhya Pradesh.
“Yamini's silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and her historic achievement at the World University Games are an inspiration for every young person in the state, especially our daughters. Her success has shown that the daughters of Madhya Pradesh are fully capable of bringing glory to the country on the international stage,” Yadav said.
The Chief Minister also congratulated Yamini's coach, Deepak Kumar, and other trainers, saying their dedication and guidance had played a vital role in the judoka's achievement.
Madhya Pradesh’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Sarang said Yamini's medal was a matter of pride not only for Madhya Pradesh but also for the country. “It is a matter of great happiness that India's flag continues to fly high in the Commonwealth Games. It is a matter of pride that two players from Madhya Pradesh have won silver medals. Yamini, our daughter, has won a silver medal in judo,” Sarang told IANS.
He added that the success of athletes from the state reflected Madhya Pradesh's strengthening sports ecosystem and would motivate more youngsters to pursue excellence in sports.
Yamini, who hails from Sagar district, clinched the silver medal after an impressive run in the women's 57 kg category at the Glasgow Games. The medal adds another major international achievement to her career after she created history for India at the World University Games.
Her success comes at a time when Indian athletes are delivering impressive performances at the Commonwealth Games, with competitors from Madhya Pradesh making a significant contribution to the country's medal tally.
