Jabalpur, Aug 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday launched a mega plantation drive to raise 11 lakh saplings over 100 acres at Dumna Nature Park in Jabalpur using the Miyawaki method, describing it as a major step towards environmental conservation.
The plantation was undertaken as part of a nationwide campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to plant 25 crore saplings across the country.
Speaking at the event, Yadav said the initiative would strengthen the ecological identity of the Jabalpur region while contributing to biodiversity conservation.
He said a historic record of planting 11 lakh saplings had been created in Jabalpur, calling it a significant step towards environmental conservation that would further strengthen the identity of the Jabalpur division, known for its rich natural beauty.
The plantation has been carried out using the Miyawaki technique, a Japanese afforestation method that helps create dense forests in a relatively short period. Unlike conventional plantations, where around 400 saplings are planted per acre, the Miyawaki method allows 8,000 to 12,000 saplings to be planted in the same area, resulting in faster forest growth and improved biodiversity.
During the programme, Yadav also inaugurated a borewell recharge structure at Dumna under the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign aimed at strengthening water conservation measures.
Referring to the possibility of water stress due to changing climatic conditions, he stressed the need for rainwater harvesting, borewell recharge and construction of water conservation structures to improve groundwater levels and reduce the impact of future water shortages.
The Chief Minister said such measures would play an important role in ensuring sustainable water resources while complementing large-scale afforestation efforts.
On this occasion, Yadav announced a series of development initiatives for Jabalpur, saying the city would be developed into a metropolitan city within a year.
Addressing a programme at Gita Bhawan, he said a furniture cluster would be set up to promote industry and generate employment. At the same time, the state’s Medical University in Jabalpur would be upgraded on the lines of AIIMS.
He also announced the construction of a world-class zoo with modern facilities near Madan Mahal. He said Sandipani Vidyalayas would be established in all Assembly constituencies of the district to strengthen the education sector.
