Imphal, Aug 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Assam Rifles has undertaken a series of civil-military outreach, youth empowerment and humanitarian assistance initiatives across Manipur’s valley and hill districts, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening community engagement alongside its core responsibilities of border security, counter-insurgency operations and maintenance of law and order, officials said on Saturday.
A defence spokesman said the multi-faceted outreach covered Kamjong, Bishnupur, Imphal West and Tengnoupal districts on Friday and Saturday, reinforcing security cooperation, fostering youth guidance and supporting vulnerable sections of society.
The initiatives commenced on Friday at K. AshangKhullen Village near the Wanglee Company Operating Base (COB) in Kamjong district, where Assam Rifles held a security interaction meeting. Chaired by a senior official, the meeting brought together 11 civilian representatives, including the Village Headman, Village Secretary and members of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Discussions centred on the prevailing security scenario, the need for close coordination between security forces and local communities, law and order maintenance, prevention of anti-national activities and preservation of communal harmony.
The senior official clarified the legal scope and purpose of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), stressing that operations are conducted with professionalism, restraint and respect for public dignity. Civilian representatives commended the security efforts and reaffirmed their support for regional peace and inclusive development.
Expanding the outreach on Saturday, Assam Rifles organised a youth-centric community interaction programme at COB Nambol in Bishnupur district. The programme engaged 35 youths associated with the Nambol Mongjing Leikai Student Union Club and Library. Personnel guided them on career counselling, skill development, the value of education and the role of youth in nurturing social harmony.
Participants were advised to stay vigilant against social evils, verify facts before sharing information online and contribute to regional stability. Representatives of the club appreciated the mentorship provided.
On the same day, Assam Rifles facilitated the transportation of essential relief materials from Mantripukhri in Imphal West district to the Missionaries of Charity centre at Moreh in Tengnoupal district along the India–Myanmar border. The Missionaries of Charity, established by Mother Teresa in 1950, provides education, healthcare and shelter to nearly 60 underprivileged children at its Moreh facility, managed by four Sisters.
Overcoming local transportation challenges, Assam Rifles delivered rice, pulses, biscuits, medicines, soyabean products and daily essentials. This assistance ensures continuity of humanitarian care and educational support for disadvantaged children in the border region.
Through structured security dialogues in Kamjong, youth engagement in Bishnupur and relief logistics connecting Imphal West to Tengnoupal, Assam Rifles continues to build mutual trust, empower communities and promote long-term peace across Manipur, the spokesman said.
