New Delhi, July 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Special POCSO Court in Varanasi sentenced a man accused of sexually assaulting a child to life imprisonment and slapped a penalty of Rs 2.75 lakh on him, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said on Thursday.
The Special Court convicted and sentenced the accused Ravi Kumar Patel to life imprisonment for various offences under IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and IT Act, including rape, aggravated penetrative sexual offences, using child for pornographic purposes, storage of pornographic material involving children and criminal conspiracy.
The CBI registered the case in June 2022 initially on the allegations of collection, transmission, publishing of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) in electronic form, an official statement said.
During the course of investigation, the CBI found that the accused had committed aggravated penetrative sexual assaults against a child.
The minor victim was immediately rescued, the statement said.
The CBI conducted a meticulous and thorough investigation and built a watertight case against the accused, thus, securing the conviction and sentencing of the convict in the Special Court, the statement added.
During the investigation, seamless coordination was ensured with forensic experts, medical experts dealing with child sexual abuse cases and child protection authorities, the CBI said.
The investigation also remained sensitive towards the minor victim while conducting interviews and ensured emotional well-being through counselling, it added.
After conclusion of the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on September 6, 2022, against Ravi Kumar Patel and charges were framed on March 23, 2023.
In a separate case, a Special CBI Court in Chennai on Thursday sentenced gangster Chota Rajan to seven years' imprisonment after finding him guilty of fraudulently obtaining an Indian passport using forged documents and a false identity.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict for offences, including cheating, forgery, personation and the use of fabricated documents to secure a passport, a CBI official said.
