New Delhi, July 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports regarding the death of two persons after inhaling toxic gases inside a sewage treatment plant at a residential society in Uttar Pradesh's Noida.
Observing that the contents of the media report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights, the apex human rights body has issued notices to the Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate and Police Commissioner, seeking a detailed report within two weeks.
The NHRC said the report is expected to include the status of the investigation, as well as details of any compensation paid to the next of kin of the victims.
According to media reports, on July 26, a sanitation worker entered the sewage treatment plant to clean a tank and lost consciousness after inhaling toxic gases. When the worker did not come out, a security guard from the residential society entered the tank to rescue him but also lost consciousness.
According to the media report, both victims were pulled out by police and fire brigade personnel and rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead during treatment.
In a separate matter, the NHRC has also taken suo motu cognisance of a media report regarding the alleged torture and inhuman treatment of a five-year-old boy by his teacher at a private school in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi district.
The apex human rights body has issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Varanasi Police Commissioner, calling for a detailed report within two weeks. The NHRC said the report is expected to include the current health status of the victim boy.
According to the media report, the teacher allegedly took the child to the school kitchen and branded his private parts with a hot knife after becoming enraged when the boy urinated in his pants.
The NHRC observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of the child's human rights. According to the media report carried on July 28, the boy informed his parents about the incident after returning home.
The teacher had allegedly threatened him with more severe punishment if he disclosed the incident.
