Madhur Bhandarkar Celebrates 9 Years of Indu Sarkar; Calls the Political Drama ‘Always Special’

National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he celebrated the 9th anniversary of his acclaimed political drama Indu Sarkar. Sharing official posters from the film on social media, the director reflected on the journey of the 2017 release while expressing gratitude to the cast and crew who helped bring his vision to life. Released on July 28, 2017, Indu Sarkar is a Hindi-language period political thriller set during India's Emergency (1975–1977), one of the most significant and controversial chapters in the country's history. Co-written, co-produced and directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, the film explores the impact of the 19-month Emergency through the eyes of an ordinary woman whose moral convictions compel her to challenge the system despite overwhelming odds.

The film stars Kirti Kulhari in the titular role alongside Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Supriya Vinod, Rashmi Jha, Sheeba Chaddha, and Manav Vij. The story follows Indu, whose husband, a government employee, sees the Emergency as an opportunity to advance his career.
