Kerala will reject fake news: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Thiruvananthapuram, July 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) BJP Kerala President and MLA, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Monday accused a section of the Malayalam media of carrying out a coordinated campaign against the party by allegedly publishing baseless and fabricated reports without verification.

In a sharply worded statement, Rajeev said the BJP had taken serious note of what he termed as organised attacks by certain media houses over the past few days.

He alleged that journalists who published the reports had not even followed the basic tenets of journalism by seeking the party's version or verifying the facts with its media team.

"These reports are completely false and factually incorrect. They are not based on verified information but are concocted stories that place greater emphasis on imagination than facts. If baseless stories are passed off as news, the people of Kerala will reject them," he said.

Calling on journalists to uphold professional standards, Rajeev said there was no substitute for honest, fact-based reporting.

"Publishing fake, fabricated and unverified rumours is not journalism," he added.

Like the Congress and the CPI(M), the BJP's Kerala unit has also witnessed factional feuds over the years, with internal rivalries often overshadowing the party's organisational efforts.

Concerned over the recurring infighting, the BJP's central leadership had on several occasions cautioned State leaders against factionalism.

It was in a bid to end those divisions and present a united organisational structure that the party last year appointed Rajeev Chandrasekhar as the Kerala unit president.

A former Union Minister, Rajeev Chandrasekhar had little direct political association with Kerala before being entrusted with the responsibility.

His political career was largely built in Bengaluru, making his appointment a significant departure from the party's traditional leadership pattern in the State.

The central leadership viewed him as a consensus figure capable of bridging factional divides and strengthening the organisation.

Reiterating the party's priorities, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the BJP leadership and workers in Kerala remain fully committed to public service and to pursuing the goal of a "developed Kerala," rather than being distracted by what he described as politically motivated narratives.
