Gujarat BJP seeks action over BAMS ‘paper leak’ at Ayurved University

Gandhinagar, July 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday assured stringent action against those responsible for the alleged leak of a third-year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) examination paper at Gujarat Ayurved University in Jamnagar, saying the matter concerns students' careers and should be treated beyond political considerations.

Reacting to the controversy, BJP chief spokesperson Anil Patel said preliminary information suggested that the Shalya Tantra-I examination paper had been leaked.

The examination, part of the third professional BAMS course, was held on July 20 and allegations have emerged that questions circulating on WhatsApp before the examination closely matched those that appeared in the paper.

The university has constituted a committee to investigate the allegations, while officials have said the probe will determine whether there was an actual breach.

Dr Patel said the college director had assured that the incident would be thoroughly investigated.

Referring to the legal framework introduced by the Gujarat government, he said, "In 2023, the state government enacted a stringent law to ensure strict action against any such incident. It provides for a penalty ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs one crore, along with imprisonment of three to 10 years."

He added that offences under the law are non-bailable and that the police have the authority to make arrests without requiring prior approval.

Calling for collective action, Dr Patel said, "Everyone should help expose those responsible for such acts in the interest of students, and they should be given the strictest possible punishment."

He urged political parties not to politicise the issue, stating, "This issue should be viewed beyond politics, as it concerns the careers of students, and should therefore be considered only from the perspective of students."

Assuring strict action, he said, "I assure you that the government will ensure the strictest possible punishment for those accused in this incident."

The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine whether disciplinary or legal action will follow.
