Guwahati/Imphal, July 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera on Thursday visited the Headquarters of Assam Rifles (East) in southern Assam on the occasion of its 15th Raising Day and commended all ranks for maintaining a high level of operational readiness and professionalism in safeguarding the nation’s security.
A Defence spokesman said the Assam Rifles (East) formation was raised on this day in 2012 at Laitumkhrah in Shillong and, within a short span of 14 years, has earned recognition for its professionalism in tackling internal security challenges, conducting disaster relief operations, leading anti‑narcotics campaigns and securing India’s international borders.
The spokesman said the Director General was briefed by Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East), Major General I.S. Bhinder on operational preparedness, administrative functioning and key achievements of the formation.
During the Sainik Sammelan, Lt Gen Lakhera complimented all ranks for their dedication, achievements and commitment to maintaining a high state of operational readiness despite challenging conditions. He also presented DG Assam Rifles Commendation Cards to personnel in recognition of their outstanding service and exemplary contributions.
Meanwhile, in Manipur, Assam Rifles continued its civil‑military outreach initiatives by organising a comprehensive Security Meeting at Mahamani in Chandel district on Thursday to strengthen coordination among security agencies, civil administration, and local communities while promoting peace and communal harmony.
The Defence spokesman said the meeting served as a platform for constructive dialogue and reinforced joint commitments towards maintaining security, fostering communal harmony and ensuring inclusive regional development.
The interactive session brought together 55 participants, including village chiefs, Chandel Police personnel, representatives of civil society organisations, tribal bodies, women’s groups and youth organisations. Discussions focused on assessing the prevailing security situation, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during the forthcoming electoral process and enhancing operational coordination among security forces, civil administration and local communities.
Assam Rifles officials emphasised the importance of sustained vigilance, timely sharing of intelligence and active public cooperation in countering anti‑national activities and addressing emerging security challenges. The deliberations also highlighted the need to promote community‑centric initiatives such as youth empowerment, skill development, lawful livelihood opportunities and greater public participation in nation‑building activities.
