Bhopal, July 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The political row over the police action against Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and students protesting NEET paper leak in New Delhi, reached the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, with the Congress and the BJP holding rival stirs during the third day of the Monsoon Session.
Congress MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, arrived at the Assembly wearing black armbands to protest the use of force by the Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi and students in the national Capital.
They demanded a discussion on the issue in the House.
Speaking to reporters, Singhar stated that students protesting for their future were lathi-charged and tear gassed in Delhi.
He claimed the BJP government was avoiding a discussion on the issue in the Assembly.
"The NEET paper leak, recruitment scams, unemployment and atrocities against students have become the BJP government's youth policy. Young people are seeking answers, but the government is showing arrogance," Singhar claimed.
The Congress' protest came a day after its MLAs staged a late-night demonstration at the Madhya Pradesh Assembly premises.
The legislators gathered inside the Assembly complex to express solidarity with Rahul Gandhi and protest against the police action on Congress leaders and students in the national Capital.
The developments in Bhopal are part of a larger political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress over the events in Delhi.
The Congress has accused the Delhi Police of using excessive force against Rahul Gandhi, party workers and students during a protest, while the BJP has defended the police action, saying it was carried out according to law.
Meanwhile, the BJP announced a counter-protest in Bhopal later on Wednesday. State BJP leaders and workers are scheduled to march to and gherao the Madhya Pradesh Congress headquarters, accusing the party of misleading people and trying to gain political mileage from the Delhi incident.
The rival protests added to the political heat during the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, with both the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress using the developments in Delhi to target each other.
