Bhagyashree Encourages Blood Donation, Says 'One Blood Donation Can Save Three Lives'; Daughter Avantika Dasani Joins Her at Raktdan Kartvyam 2026

Veteran Bollywood actress Bhagyashree, accompanied by her daughter Avantika Dasani, recently participated in Raktdan Kartvyam 2026, one of India's largest nationwide corporate voluntary blood donation drives. The mother-daughter duo not only attended the event as chief guests but also donated blood, using their platform to spread awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and dispel common misconceptions surrounding it.

During the media interaction, Bhagyashree was asked about the lack of awareness regarding blood donation in India despite people continuing to donate blood. Responding in detail, the actress highlighted how a single act of donation can have a far-reaching impact.

She said, "First of all, I would like to say that a single blood donation can save not just one, but three lives. This is because blood consists of red blood cells, plasma, and platelets; these three components can be separated scientifically, allowing three different patients to benefit from them. So, it is important for blood donors to understand that the single unit of blood drawn from their body is actually beneficial for them as well. We often consume unhealthy foods and lack exercise, causing our blood to thicken. Blood donation helps restore balance; it reduces issues like excessive iron levels—which can strain the heart—and prevents blood thickening. Consequently, the strain on the heart decreases, and the blood becomes thinner, making it easier for the heart to pump. So, the donor enjoys these benefits, and of course, those in need receive the blood. It is crucial to communicate this dual benefit to the public. I would also like the media, in particular, to highlight that women can donate blood. Today, my daughter Avantika and I donated blood. Yes, it is important to consult a doctor to ensure your haemoglobin levels are adequate and that you don't have low blood pressure, but apart from that, women can certainly donate blood. It is very beneficial for you. In fact, if you Google it or ask your doctor, you'll find that it is even great for your hair follicles. So, please go ahead and donate blood. Help the people around you and help yourself."

Bhagyashree also revealed that the idea of making blood donation a family initiative came from her son, Abhimanyu Dasani. Recalling how the journey began, she credited him for inspiring the family to become associated with the cause.

"Actually, the credit for this goes to Abhimanyu. Hitesh-ji, from the Terapanthi Yuva Parishad, had called. He met and spoke with Abhimanyu, explaining that they were organizing this camp. Abhimanyu was incredibly excited and said, 'Mom, we simply have to do this.' At the time—this was quite a few years ago—I was a bit skeptical about whether it was actually feasible. But after speaking with the doctor and learning the details I just shared with you, it was wonderful to see a child take the initiative and express the desire to do this. So, I think that was truly wonderful."

Speaking about the impact of the campaign and the recognition it has received, Bhagyashree expressed optimism about encouraging more people to donate blood. She also acknowledged the efforts of the organisers in creating awareness on such a large scale.

Bhagyashree's participation, along with Avantika Dasani, added visibility to a campaign that aims to encourage voluntary blood donation across the country. By combining personal action with public advocacy, the duo sought to inspire more people—especially women—to consider donating blood after consulting medical professionals. Their appearance at Raktdan Kartvyam 2026 reinforced the message that awareness, education, and community participation can play a significant role in strengthening India's blood donation network.

With celebrities increasingly using their influence for public health initiatives, Bhagyashree's heartfelt appeal served as a reminder that a simple act of kindness can make a life-saving difference. Her emphasis on both the humanitarian impact and the health benefits of blood donation is likely to resonate with many, encouraging more people to step forward and contribute to this vital cause.
