TN BJP seeks action against DMK leaders for alleged remarks on PM Modi, HM Shah

Chennai, July 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday urged the TVK-led coalition government to ensure that the law is enforced uniformly by taking similar action on complaints previously filed against several DMK leaders for allegedly making abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The party welcomed the arrest of DMK MLA G.V. Markandayan for his alleged derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

In a statement, BJP State chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said the arrest of the Vilathikulam legislator was justified, arguing that no elected representative should be allowed to use abusive or indecent language against a constitutional functionary during a public meeting.

“I welcome the arrest of the Vilathikulam DMK legislator Markandayan, who abused the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a public meeting. It is unacceptable for an elected representative to use vulgar and derogatory language against the Chief Minister in such a manner,” Thirupathy said.

While supporting the government’s decision, the BJP leader accused the DMK of adopting a contradictory stand by condemning the arrest even though, according to him, several of its own leaders had made similar remarks against national leaders in the past.

He alleged that despite repeatedly speaking about the principles of “duty, dignity and discipline”, the DMK had failed to ensure responsible conduct among its ministers, legislators and party office-bearers.

Thirupathy claimed that during the previous DMK administration, several senior leaders had allegedly made offensive statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said the BJP had filed multiple police complaints over those remarks but alleged that no meaningful action had been initiated by the authorities.

Calling for equal application of the law, the BJP urged Chief Minister Joseph Vijay to instruct the police to act on all pending complaints submitted by the party and to examine why earlier cases had not progressed.

Thirupathy also sought disciplinary action against police officials who, according to him, had failed to pursue those complaints despite formal representations.

Emphasising that democratic politics must be conducted with civility and respect, the BJP leader said the law should be applied impartially, irrespective of political affiliation.

He added that the arrest of the DMK MLA should serve as a reminder that abusive political rhetoric has no place in public life and that the same standards must be applied to every political party and leader without exception.
