New Delhi, July 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Indian Army’s Fact Check unit on Monday debunked a fake and fabricated claim circulating on Pakistan-based social media propaganda handles alleging that the military has been deployed against student protesters in New Delhi.
In a post on its official Fact Check handle, the Army said that the Pakistan-based propaganda handles are falsely claiming that the military is using weapons against protesters, leading to several deaths and injuries.
Presenting the fact, the Army said, “The protests are being managed by Delhi Police and other designated law-enforcement units, including CAPFs and RAF personnel. There is no Army deployment to manage the protest.”
The Army’s post headlined “Unmask the Lies” said that the Pakistan-based propaganda handles intend to create panic and damage the reputation of the Indian Army.
Exposing the trend followed by these handles, the Army said, “Disinformation Pattern: Footage of civilian protests + fabricated Army deployment + false allegations of armed action = propaganda intended to create panic and damage the reputation of the Indian Army.”
“Check the facts before sharing the narrative,” said the Army’s Fact Check.
The Army’s clarification came on an eventful day which saw an attempt by students and supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who had been on a protest at Jantar Mantar, to march towards Parliament and the use of mild force by the police to prevent them from coming close to the high-security zone.
Later in the day, two representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) met Union Minister JP Nadda at his residence, with their 'letter of demands'.
CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka put forth their three demands before the Union Minister while the latter appealed to them to end the sit-in stir and help bring normalcy in the high-security zone, close to the Parliamentary complex
The Delhi Police also urged CJP activists and its supporters to “exercise restraint and continue their demonstrations peacefully”.
The Police urged the public to ignore rumours and rely only on verified information pertaining to the Jantar Mantar protest.
Additional Police Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan, in a video message, said, “The Delhi Police appeals to all protesters to exercise restraint and cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and law and order. All protesters are requested to conduct their demonstrations peacefully.”
“They should not engage in any illegal or violent activities and must comply with the instructions given by the police personnel deployed on duty,” he added.
