Lucknow, July 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled plans to achieve a bioenergy transition in the state and to emerge as an economy that accelerates investment in the biogas sector.
The state government has formulated a detailed plan to install mini biogas plants in over a thousand households across all districts of the state - these will include both fixed and portable plant models.
Yogi Adityanath government aims to transform cow-based products into a sustainable source of income, energy, and employment.
To achieve this, it has partnered with experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) to provide technical support in setting up biogas plants.
According to an official statement, more than 15 leading companies have expressed interest in joining the initiative in rural areas. A framework is also in the works to prepare to provide subsidies to villagers for installing these plants.
The ‘gaushalas’ (cow shelters) across the state will be developed into ‘Rural Resource and Energy Hubs’. A complete value chain ranging from the production of biogas, bio-CNG, and organic fertiliser from cow dung to future carbon credit generation will be established here.
Shyam Bihari Gupta, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Aayog (Cow Service Commission), stated that the scheme's greatest strength lies in its technical and industrial collaboration, with IIT Delhi overseeing plant technology, operations, maintenance, and youth training.
At least 15 major companies operating in this sector have stepped forward to participate in implementing and expanding the project across the state's rural areas, ensuring that the benefits of modern technology and private-sector expertise reach the villages.
Through IIT Delhi's training program, youth across the state will be trained in installing, operating, and maintaining biogas plants, creating a new generation of 'green technicians.' This will also generate new self-employment opportunities for self-help groups and rural entrepreneurs.
The gas produced by the plants will serve as domestic fuel, thereby reducing LPG expenses for rural households.
Additionally, the slurry discharged from the plants will be utilised as high-quality organic fertiliser in fields. This will reduce reliance on chemical fertilisers and promote natural farming practices.
The Cow Service Commission chairman further stated that the objective of this campaign is to make rural areas self-reliant in terms of energy and to boost the production of organic manure.
