Rajasthan: Illegal drug factory busted in Barmer; Rs 2 crore seized

Jaipur, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rajasthan Police have busted an illegal MD (Mephedrone) drug manufacturing unit operating in Gauda village under Sedwa Police Station limits. The raid led to the seizure of narcotics, chemicals, manufacturing equipment, and cash collectively valued at Rs 2.09 crore.

Barmer Superintendent of Police Chunaram Jat said the operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional SP Nitesh Arya and Chohtan Circle Officer Jetharam, with the raid led by Sedwa SHO Prabhuram.

The action followed specific intelligence received on July 17, indicating that Mukesh Kumar, son of Birbalram and a resident of Gauda village, was manufacturing MD drugs in a tin‑shed storeroom behind his residence. Acting swiftly, a special police team raided the premises and uncovered a fully operational clandestine laboratory.

During the operation, police recovered 1 kg 3 grams of MD (Mephedrone), 77.176 litres of chemicals, 26.673 kg of white chemical powder, and Rs 24.09 lakh in cash. Machinery, laboratory equipment, and other materials used in the manufacture of MD drugs were also seized. The total estimated value of the seized items is approximately Rs 2.09 crore.

Police arrested Anju, wife of prime accused Mukesh Kumar, from the spot. Mukesh Kumar managed to flee before the raid. Special teams have been constituted to trace and arrest the absconding accused, and raids are continuing at multiple suspected locations.

SP Chunaram Jat said the operation reflects the district police’s sustained efforts to dismantle drug manufacturing and trafficking networks under the Drug‑Free Barmer campaign. He noted this was the fourth illegal MD drug factory detected in the Sedwa police station area within a year.

“The campaign against narcotics will continue with full force, and no one involved in pushing youth towards drug addiction will be spared,” he said, appealing to the public to share information related to illegal narcotics, assuring informants’ identities would remain confidential.

The successful operation was carried out by a team comprising SHO Prabhuram, ASI Babulal, Intelligence Officer Constable Mohanlal, Bhojaram, Gangaram, Dinesh Kumar, Kaluram, Ramchandra, Female Constables Urma and Sohni, Head Constable Kamala, and Driver Constable Ambaram.

Further investigation is underway under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
