Chennai, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Moderate rainfall is likely in Chennai during the evening on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, while forecasting a week of rain accompanied by gusty winds across the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), a trough extending from the southwest Bay of Bengal to the north Lakshadweep region is currently influencing weather conditions over Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas.
The weather system is expected to enhance rainfall activity, particularly over the Western Ghats, where moderate showers accompanied by strong winds are likely to continue until July 23.
The RMC said the rainfall is expected to benefit several hill and adjoining districts, which have been witnessing intermittent showers in recent days.
The prevailing weather conditions are likely to keep rain activity active across these regions for the next few days. North coastal districts of Tamil Nadu are also expected to receive moderate rainfall on Friday.
In the rest of the State, including interior districts, only light rain is likely at isolated places over the coming days. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail in the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal, where light rainfall has been forecast until July 23.
The weather office said there is no indication of widespread heavy rainfall over most parts of the State at present. However, isolated spells of rain and cloudy conditions are expected to provide temporary relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather in several regions.
In Chennai, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with the possibility of moderate rain during the evening or night. While the city may experience brief spells of rain, daytime conditions are expected to remain warm and humid.
The maximum temperature is likely to be around 38 degree celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain close to seasonal levels.
Meanwhile, heat conditions are likely to persist across interior Tamil Nadu. The RMC has said that maximum temperatures in the interior districts are expected to remain up to 3 degrees celsius above normal until July 21.
Coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Puducherry and Karaikal, is expected to record temperatures close to the seasonal average.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay updated with weather forecasts, particularly in districts likely to experience gusty winds and intermittent rain.
Authorities are also expected to monitor local weather developments as the trough continues to influence conditions across Tamil Nadu over the next several days.
