Sonam Wangchuk Shares Health Update Amid Hunger Strike, Urges Supporters to Join July 20 Peace March to Parliament

Ladakh-based innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has shared a fresh health update from his ongoing hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, urging supporters to participate in a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20 instead of asking him to end his fast. Posting a video from the protest site, Wangchuk wrote, "I’m Not in good shape but not so bad either...Rather than asking me to break my fast please join me on 20th July... Peaceful March to the Parliament. #cockroachjanataparty #jantarmantar #cjpprotest #chalosansad."

The video shows Wangchuk lying on a mat beneath a temporary tent while addressing supporters gathered behind barricades. Although visibly fatigued, he remains determined as he speaks about the purpose of the protest. Throughout the video, medical records are displayed on screen, documenting his health since July 14, 2026, including changes in weight, blood pressure, and other vital signs being monitored during the hunger strike.

Addressing those concerned about his condition, Wangchuk reassures supporters that while the fast has taken a physical toll, his resolve remains strong. In the video, he says, "My muscle are going, but my heart and core is ready to go on. So rather then asking to stop the hunger strike, I want everyone to participate on 20th July, so that a message reaches the government." His appeal shifts the focus from his personal sacrifice to broader public participation, encouraging citizens to express their views through peaceful democratic means.

The proposed march to Parliament has been positioned as a non-violent demonstration aimed at drawing attention to issues that Wangchuk and his supporters believe require greater engagement from the government. The activist has consistently emphasized dialogue as the preferred path for resolving concerns related to Ladakh and other public policy matters. His latest message reinforces that position by encouraging collective participation rather than individual expressions of concern over his health.

The hashtags accompanying the post, including #cockroachjanataparty, #cjpprotest, and #chalosansad, refer to a satirical protest campaign that seeks to mobilize people through symbolic participation and public outreach. The movement encourages supporters to join peaceful demonstrations and engage in democratic processes, with organizers framing the campaign around dialogue, civic participation, and raising awareness of unresolved regional demands.

Sonam Wangchuk has long been recognised for his work in sustainable innovation, education, and environmental conservation in Ladakh. Over the years, he has become one of India's most prominent voices on ecological issues and grassroots development, often advocating policy reforms through peaceful campaigns and public engagement. His current hunger strike continues that tradition, combining personal sacrifice with calls for wider civic participation.

As July 20 approaches, Wangchuk's latest appeal is likely to draw increased attention to the planned march. While concerns over his health continue to grow, the activist has made it clear that his priority is encouraging citizens to participate peacefully and ensure their voices are heard through democratic dialogue.
