Odisha: Class XI student hiding from girlfriend’s family plunges to death from high-rise

Bhubaneswar, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a tragic incident, a minor student died after falling from the 10th floor of a residential apartment in the Niladri Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits in Bhubaneswar on Monday while allegedly hiding to avoid being caught by his alleged girlfriend's family members.

The deceased was identified as Rafan Khurshid, reportedly a resident of the Laxmi Sagar area of the city. Khurshid was a Class XI student and a classmate of the girl at a prominent private English-medium school in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, residents and security personnel of the apartment rushed to the spot after hearing a loud thud. They found the minor lying critically injured and immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Speaking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena said that the preliminary investigation suggested that the youth was hiding in his alleged girlfriend's flat, adjacent to the bathroom, when the incident occurred.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the DCP said the deceased's alleged girlfriend was residing with her family in a flat on the 10th floor of the residential apartment where the incident took place. He said the girl was alone in the flat on Monday when her friend, the deceased, came to visit her during the day.

While the two were inside the flat, the girl's mother unexpectedly returned home after her half-day duty ended. Panicked by her sudden arrival, the deceased minor hid himself inside the bathroom and locked the door from the inside. However, when the family members opened the bathroom door, they did not find him inside.

The DCP further added that it subsequently came to light during the investigation that the deceased had actually hidden near the duct pipe adjacent to the bathroom. His school bag was found hanging from the pipes on the ninth floor of the building.

He said they suspect that, out of panic, he had hidden himself near the duct area, and in the process, he apparently lost his balance, fell from the building and died.

The DCP said the unfortunate incident was the outcome of an adolescent love affair and sudden panic. He also revealed that the family members of the deceased have been informed.
