Guwahati, July 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested and a cache of suspected psychotropic substances, along with cash believed to be linked to the illegal narcotics trade, was seized during an anti-drug operation in Assam's Dhubri district, officials said on Tuesday.
The action was carried out following specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances in the Chotobajani area under Dhubri Police Station.
Acting on the information, a police team in Dhubri launched a raid in the locality on Monday night. During the operation, police intercepted two persons suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade and took them into custody.
The arrested individuals were identified as Riyajul Hoque, a resident of Adabari Part-II, and Ejaj Sheikh of IG Road. Both are residents within the jurisdiction of Dhubri Police Station.
Police said a search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, during which officers recovered seven bottles of Triprolidine Hydrochloride and Codeine-based cough syrup, 134 Spas Plus capsules and 69 Nitcor-10 (Nitrazepam) tablets.
Apart from the suspected psychotropic substances, the police also seized Rs 5,000 in cash, which investigators believe may be proceeds generated through the sale of illegal drugs.
According to officials, the recovered pharmaceutical products are suspected to fall under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seized items and cash have been taken into police custody as part of the investigation.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the seized substances, identify the supply chain and trace other individuals who may be linked to the alleged drug trafficking network.
Assam Police has intensified its crackdown on narcotics across the state in recent months, with regular raids leading to arrests and the seizure of drugs, psychotropic substances and other contraband as part of the government's drive against the drug menace.
