Gandhinagar, July 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Gujarat government has intensified its monitoring of the ongoing monsoon situation in Saurashtra, with Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani scheduled to chair a key virtual review meeting on Tuesday to assess the prevailing rainfall conditions in Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Amreli districts.
The meeting comes as heavy rainfall continues across parts of Gujarat, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for intense monsoon activity in several districts.
Fresh forecasts have warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next 24 hours as the active southwest monsoon persists.
According to the state government, the review will focus on the rainfall situation in the three key Saurashtra districts and the preparedness of the local administration.
Bhavnagar's Minister-in-Charge Kaushik Vekariya, local Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly and other office-bearers will participate in the meeting.
District Collectors and District Development Officers from the three districts will also attend along with their respective district disaster management plans.
During the meeting, the Collectors of Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Amreli will present live reports on the condition of low-lying areas, the status of rivers and streams, and water inflows into dams.
The functioning of district control rooms will also be reviewed to assess their response to immediate issues such as power outages, disruption of water supply and road blockages resulting from heavy rainfall.
The review follows an active spell of monsoon rains across Gujarat.
The IMD has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the state, while authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert.
Several parts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat have already witnessed widespread rainfall, prompting weather alerts and heightened preparedness measures.
Red alerts have been issued for parts of the region amid concerns over waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas and disruption to transport and essential services.
Emergency response agencies and district administrations have been placed on alert as the monsoon system remains active.
