Coimbatore, June 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Senior AIADMK leader and former minister S.P. Velumani has publicly declined to accept the post of deputy general secretary, saying he would not take up the organisational responsibility unless other senior leaders who played a key role in strengthening the party were also accommodated.
Addressing party functionaries at a meeting in Coimbatore on Tuesday, Velumani said it would be unfair for him alone to be rewarded with a key post while several experienced leaders who had stood by him and worked tirelessly for the party remained without organisational responsibilities.
He stressed that the AIADMK's growth across Tamil Nadu was the result of the collective efforts of several senior leaders and district-level organisers.
According to him, those who had contributed significantly to building the party's organisational strength deserved recognition and suitable positions within the party structure.
"I am not prepared to accept the post of deputy general secretary when leaders who stood with me and worked for the party have not been given any responsibility. How can I accept such a position?" Velumani said during his speech.
He specifically mentioned senior leaders K.P. Munusamy, Veeramani, P. Thangamani, and C.V. Shanmugam, stating that each had worked extensively to strengthen the AIADMK in different parts of the state. Ignoring their contributions while offering him a senior organisational post alone would not be fair, he said.
"Those who trusted me, stood by me and worked shoulder to shoulder with me should also be entrusted with responsibilities. Is it right to give a post only to me while overlooking them?" he asked.
Velumani, one of the AIADMK's most influential leaders from the western region, has long been regarded as a key strategist and organiser within the party. His remarks are being interpreted by political observers as a sign of dissatisfaction over the recent organisational appointments announced under the leadership of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
The comments come at a time when the party is facing renewed discussions over internal unity and leadership following recent political developments in Tamil Nadu.
A video of Velumani's speech has since gone viral on social media, triggering fresh debate over the AIADMK's internal dynamics and raising questions about whether more senior leaders will seek greater representation in the party's organisational structure in the coming weeks.
