Kolkata, June 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The police on Tuesday evening registered a suo motu case against two-time former Trinamool Congress MP Aparupa Poddar for obstructing policemen when National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials were taking her husband away from their home.
Earlier in the day, Trinamool Congress councillor of Rishra Municipality in Hooghly district, Shakir Ali, husband of Aparupa Poddar, was arrested by the NIA in the 2023 Ram Navami violence case.
On Tuesday evening, the police registered a suo motu case against Aparupa, a two-time Trinamool MP from Arambagh in Hooghly district. The case was filed at the Serampore police station. The former MP has been accused of misbehaving with government officials on duty and obstructing their work.
After Shakir's arrest, when the NIA and the central forces were taking him out in a car, Aparupa got into an argument with a female police officer on the road. The police officer was saying something to the former MP. However, Aparupa pushed her hand away and said, "I don't need police protection. I don't need it. I don't want police protection." After a brief argument, she moved on. The police have asked her to go to the police station on Wednesday.
It is not clear whether this allegation was made against Aparupa only in the wake of that incident or in the wake of some other incident during the NIA raid that lasted about four and a half hours on Tuesday. Aparupa did not respond to this.
The former MP's husband is the Trinamool councillor of Ward No. 4 of Rishra Municipality. He was accused of creating unrest during Ram Navami three years ago.
On April 2, 2023, unrest broke out during the Ram Navami procession in Rishra. Several people were injured in the fight and vandalism that occurred.
On that day, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh joined the Ram Navami procession from Bangur Park in Rishra. The police and central security personnel took Dilip Ghosh to a safe place. Police were deployed in the area after the incident. Tensions were high in the area for several days.
Incidentally, the case related to the Ram Navami unrest was transferred from the police to the NIA. Three years later, on Tuesday, they arrested the Trinamool councillor in the same case.
Aparupa did not give any reaction to her husband's arrest. However, she was seen controlling the crowd in front of the house with a strong hand. She was also seen trying to calm down the angry followers by explaining things. Her son had come forward to give his reaction to the media about his father's arrest. However, Aparupa covered his face and took her son home, bypassing the media persons.
She only said, "I have full faith in God and the judiciary." However, she lost her temper after that.
