Two women trapped under debris as well collapses in MP; rescue ops underway

Rajgarh, June 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two women, a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law, were trapped under debris after an under-construction well collapsed in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district on Wednesday, officials said.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. in Bamangaon Chhoti village under Khilchipur tehsil when a section of soil and stones suddenly caved in during the digging of a new well in a field.

The women, identified as Rupa (60) and Pinky (30), were standing near the well when the collapse occurred. Both fell into the well and were buried under debris as it filled with soil and stones.

Rupa is the mother of a Janpad Panchayat member, while Pinky is his wife.

The accident triggered panic in the village, with residents rushing to the spot and beginning rescue efforts before police and administrative teams arrived.

Officials said a rescue operation was launched immediately, with three JCB machines deployed to clear the debris. A Poclain machine was also requisitioned to expedite the operation.

An ambulance from Khilchipur Hospital has been kept on standby to provide immediate medical assistance once the women are rescued.

Police and district administration officials are supervising the operation, while villagers are assisting in the rescue efforts.

Authorities said the debris is being removed carefully to prevent any further collapse and ensure the women's safety.

Officials said efforts are focused on reaching the trapped women as quickly as possible. Further details are awaited as the rescue operation continues.

The incident comes weeks after a similar tragedy in Panna district, where five labourers were killed and two others were rescued after an under-construction well collapsed on May 26.

The victims were working on a public irrigation well being constructed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) when a large section of soil caved in, trapping them inside.
