SCBA condemns brutal killing of Hyderabad lawyer

New Delhi/Hyderabad, May 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday strongly condemned the murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad, terming it a "planned, brutal and shocking murder" and an assault on the institution of justice.

In a statement issued by SCBA Honorary Secretary Pragya Baghel, the Bar body said the incident had "deeply disturbed the legal fraternity" and raised serious concerns over the safety and security of advocates discharging their professional duties.

"The attack resulting in the death of a member of the Bar is not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice itself," it said.

"The legal profession forms an essential pillar of the justice delivery system, and any act of violence against advocates strikes at the very foundation of the rule of law," it added.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the SCBA said it prayed for strength to the family during the difficult time.

"The Association urges the concerned authorities to conduct a fair, expeditious and thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice at the earliest in accordance with law," the statement read.

Moizuddin, a senior advocate practising in the Telangana High Court and City Civil Court for nearly 35 years, was allegedly killed in a targeted attack in Hyderabad’s Masab Tank area on May 23.

According to police, he was getting into his car near his residence around 4.45 a.m. when a speeding SUV rammed him from behind and fled the scene. He suffered grievous injuries and later succumbed at a hospital.

According to the police, the incident was initially suspected to be a hit-and-run case. However, following a complaint by the family and examination of CCTV footage, the case was later treated as murder with suspected links to disputes over Waqf land.

Police had earlier said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused used an SUV without a number plate and allegedly conducted a recce near the advocate’s residence for three days before the attack.

Police have formed special teams to trace the suspects and the vehicle used in the crime.

Moizuddin’s son, Farhan, who is also an advocate, had alleged that his father had received repeated threats from persons linked to alleged Waqf land encroachments and had been attacked five times in the past.

The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association had also condemned the killing and sought the constitution of a special investigation team to trace the culprits and ensure their prosecution.

AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi had also condemned the murder and demanded the arrest of the "main mastermind and assailants" behind the killing.
