During the grand trailer launch event of Peddi in Mumbai, Rahman spoke passionately about the film, revealing that he had been waiting for years for the right Telugu project. The Oscar-winning composer said the emotional narration and Buchi Babu’s dedication convinced him instantly.
“I think—uh—I started with Tamil films, and then I moved on to Telugu—editing, dubbing, and Hindi projects—among other things. And I was waiting for the right Telugu movie to come along. And this is the one. So, I was waiting—I was actively seeking opportunities; people used to approach me for Telugu films, but when he narrated this story to me, the passion I saw in his eyes made me feel, ‘This is it—this is going to be my first Telugu film.’ And I think this is just the beginning. Thanks to Buchi Babu and Ram Charan. And Satish—thank you.”
The statement instantly sent fans into celebration mode, especially supporters of Ram Charan, who headlines the ambitious sports action drama. Rahman’s involvement has already pushed expectations sky-high, but his latest comments suggest Peddi may be far more emotional and intense than audiences initially expected.
Rahman did not stop there. Speaking about the filmmaking process, the composer praised Buchi Babu’s relentless commitment and admitted he could see the blood, sweat, and soul poured into every frame of the film.
“Personally, I feel that—regardless of the subject matter—if someone delves deep into the core of the story and draws out the very best from every artist involved, the result is bound to be a great film. You know, setting aside the question of success or failure—though I do believe it will be a massive success, God willing—for me, the feeling is that we truly plumbed the depths. In every single frame, this man [Buchi Babu] shines. Every single frame. And I can clearly see the hard work—physically, spiritually, and mentally—that went into it. It has been a great honor.”
However, the biggest surprise came when Rahman hilariously exposed Buchi Babu’s demanding creative process while talking about the now-viral “Chikri” music discussion video. The composer jokingly called the filmmaker a “tyrant,” revealing how perfection was constantly demanded throughout the music-making journey.
“I believe he started doing that during the COVID period, didn't he? So he came to Dubai—right? And ‘Chikri’ was the very first tune; he said, ‘Very good.’ Then I worked on a few other things, and the process continued in Chennai before he headed to Hyderabad. So, he seems very sweet, but he isn't; he is a tyrant! He really is, Sir—he truly is! [Laughs] He looks like a very, very gentle, nice, and lovable guy. But he would say, ‘Can you give me another tune?’ ‘Can you come up with a different melody? Can you change your vocal delivery?’ Right. But then again, that is precisely what enables a person to truly excel. All for the sake of the movie.”
That candid confession from Rahman instantly became one of the most talked-about moments from the launch event. Fans online are now praising Buchi Babu’s uncompromising vision, while many are calling the Rahman-Buchi Babu collaboration one of the most exciting creative partnerships in recent Telugu cinema.
Produced under Vriddhi Cinemas and presented by Mythri Movie Makers along with Sukumar Writings, Peddi stars an ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Janhvi Kapoor, Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu.
With Rahman’s emotional endorsement, Ram Charan’s star power, and Buchi Babu’s intense filmmaking style, Peddi is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Indian films of 2026. The film is scheduled for a massive theatrical release on June 4, 2026, across IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, D-Box, PVR ICE, 3D, and EPIQ formats.
